Community & Partnerships
Learning beyond the classroom
At Redshift Education, we believe education should connect young people with the world around them. Through our partnerships in Penicuik, we are creating opportunities for pupils to experience sport, nature, science, technology and the local community first-hand.
Penicuik Athletic Football Club
Supporting local sport. Building stronger communities.
Redshift Education is proud to support Penicuik Athletic Football Club, strengthening our connection with the local community and supporting the role that sport plays in developing young people.
Sport offers far more than physical activity. It helps children and young people develop teamwork, resilience, leadership, discipline and confidence – qualities that sit at the heart of a well-rounded education.
Our partnership with Penicuik Athletic reflects our belief that schools should be active members of their communities, building relationships that create opportunities for young people both on and off the pitch.
Sport has always played an important role in bringing communities together. For Redshift Education Chairman Timothy Fisher, that understanding is informed not only by his work in education, but by his experience as former Chairman of Coventry City Football Club.
That experience has reinforced a simple belief: football clubs can be about far more than what happens on the pitch. Beyond the pitch, a football club can provide a sense of identity, belonging and aspiration, while giving young people opportunities to develop confidence, teamwork, resilience and leadership.
Our partnership with Penicuik Athletic Football Club reflects that belief.
By supporting a club with deep roots in its local community, Redshift Education wants to contribute to the environment in which young people can grow, participate and thrive.
The same qualities we seek to develop through education – confidence, resilience, teamwork and a sense of purpose – are also developed through sport.
“Sport teaches young people lessons that extend far beyond the pitch – how to work with others, how to respond to setbacks, how to lead and how to be part of something bigger than themselves.”

Valleyfield Woodland Park & Pond
Valleyfield: where learning meets the landscape
Our work in Penicuik extends beyond the classroom and onto the land itself.
Valleyfield Woodland Park & Pond provides an inspiring setting for pupils to investigate the natural world, explore the environment and develop practical skills through residential STEAM experiences.
Through fieldwork, experimentation, observation and exploration, pupils can encounter science and technology in a completely different way – by seeing how the concepts they study in the classroom exist in the real world.
From ecology and geology to environmental science, engineering and problem-solving, Valleyfield provides a living learning environment where curiosity can become action.
Residential STEAM experiences
Our residential STEAM programme is designed to take learning beyond the classroom and give pupils the opportunity to question, investigate, create and solve problems in the real world.
At Valleyfield, pupils can work collaboratively, explore the woodland and pond environment, investigate local geology and ecosystems, and develop their understanding through practical activities.
The residential experience also encourages independence, resilience and teamwork – giving pupils the chance to learn with one another as well as from their surroundings.
Our Penicuik partnerships reflect a wider Redshift Education philosophy: young people learn best when education connects with the world around them.
Whether working as part of a team on the football pitch or investigating an ecosystem in the woodland, pupils encounter opportunities to develop knowledge, character and practical skills.
These experiences help turn education into something pupils can see, experience and remember.
